Germany: Geography
Location:
Germany is located in Europe. It is bordered by nine countries, but the two biggest are France and Poland. Germany is a western European country. Terrain: Germany has forests, mountain ranges, and north sea beaches. Germany also has lowlands in the north, uplands in the center, and the Alps, which are in the south. Route you will travel: You will travel from Hamburg → Berlin → Leipzig → Dresden → Munich → Frankfurt → Heidelberg →Cologne! While in these cities, you will walk around and explore what the city has to offer. You will also travel to Dachau and Schwangau, but the only thing you will be doing in Dachau is going to Dachau Concentration Camp, and the only thing you will be doing in Schwangau is going to Neuschwanstein Castle(see attractions page for more details). . 1: Hamburg, a major port city in northern Germany, is connected to the North Sea by the Elbe River. It's crossed by hundreds of canals, and also contains large areas of parkland 2: Berlin is the capital city of Germany and one of the 16 states of Germany. With a population of 3.4 million people, Berlin is the second most populous city proper, the seventh most populous urban area in the European Union, and the largest German city. 3: Leipzig is the largest city in the federal state of Saxony, Germany. With a population of 570,087 inhabitants (1,001,220 residents in the larger urban zone) it is Germany's tenth most populous city. Leipzig is located about 160 kilometers (99 miles) southwest of Berlin at the confluence of the White Elster, Pleisse, and Parthe rivers at the southern end of the North German Plain. 4: Dresden is a large city in the eastern German Free State of Saxony nearby the border to the Czech Republic at the river Elbe. The geography and urban development of Dresden is embossed by the valley location and by the Elbe stream. 5: Munich lies on the elevated plains of Upper Bavaria, about 50 km (31.07 mi) north of the northern edge of the Alps, at an altitude of about 520 m (1,706.04 ft) ASL. The local rivers are the Isar and the Würm. Munich is situated in the Northern Alpine Foreland. 6: Frankfurt- The city is at the centre of the larger Frankfurt Rhine-Main Metropolitan Region which has a population of 5,500,000 and is Germany's second-largest metropolitan region. Since the enlargement of the European Union in 2013, the geographic centre of the EU is about 40 km (25 mi) to the east. 7: Heidelberg is a city situated on the river Neckar in south-west Germany. The fifth-largest town in the State of Baden-Württemberg after Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Mannheim and Freiburg im Breisgau, Heidelberg is part of the densely populated Rhine-Neckar Metropolitan Region. 8: Cologne is the largest city in the German federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the fourth-largest city in Germany (after Berlin, Hamburg, and Munich). How you will get around: While in Germany, you will get around the cities on a city tram(right), but when we it is time to travel to a different city, you will most likely take a plane!✈️If the distance isn't long enough to fly, then you will travel on a train to your next destination. |
